The University of the West Indies

Indrani Bachan-Persad has been employed at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, in various capacities both at center (Vice Chancellery, Jamaica) and campus levels (St. Augustine Campus), the most recent being Unit Head, Economic Engagement and Industry Partnerships at the central planning office of the vice chancellery. Her responsibilities include developing policies and strategies for industry/academic engagement. She is the founding editor of the university�s first newspaper, �UWItoday� on the St. Augustine Campus and developed a concept paper which led to the formation of the first evening university, there. She was also the Manager of the UWI- Institute of Critical Thinking and was instrumental in the establishment of the IDB funded Caribbean Competitiveness Centre. In 2012, after graduating from Coventry University in the UK with a PhD in Media and Politics, she was co-opted by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to lead the Communications thrust at the Council for Competitiveness and Innovation and Economic Development Board, key development institutions in Trinidad and Tobago, before returning to UWI. Dr. Bachan-Persad has served on a number of national boards/committees. Her first book "Mediatized Political Campaigns: A Caribbean Perspective" was published in 2017 by UWI Press and a second book "Sunlight Dancing in the Snow" was published in 2020.
