Dr. Sofía Trejo is a Researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. She is an expert in the ethical, sociopolitical, economic, and cultural  dimensions of artificial intelligence (ELSEC AI), with a particular focus on Gender, the Global South, and Responsible AI. She holds a BSc in Mathematics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Warwick. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London and the University of São Paulo. She has cllaborated with numerous organisations on AI-related projects, including the Montreal AI Ethics Institute (non-profit promoting AI literacy), Derechos Digitales (non-profit focused on Digital Rights in Latin America), Woman in AI (non-profit centred on AI and Gender) and the University of Montreal.She has taught AI ethics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at UNAM and the Technological Autonomous Institute of Mexico (ITAM). She was part of the Advisory Council of Mexico's Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) (2021-2022) and was the Research Leader for the Ethics group on the National AI Agenda for Mexico (2020). In 2023, Forbes Mexico named Dr. Trejo one of the 20 people leading AI in Mexico.
